This year's Leadership Theme:

"Honor you commitment"

As the year continues, we often become busier and have made more commitments than we can follow through on. If you say you will do something, do it. Do not go against your words to do something just because you get a better offer. Manage your time wisely. Stay true to your word.

Next Meeting: Monday March 4th at 7:30AM in the Business Conference room.

February 11th Meeting

Due to the weather, school has been postponed two hours late. For NHS members, this means the meeting will be at 9:30AM in the Business Conference Room. Please drive safe in the morning. Do not forget your signed hours sheets. In the event that school is cancelled, the meeting will be rescheduled. Also, if school were to be cancelled, I will try to get any updates from Mr. Stock and post them on this site. If you ever have any questions about NHS events, feel free to ask/text/call/email me, even if you are not in my group. I will do my best to answer you. I am here to help!

On Tuesday, February 12, Blake's group will be going to Challenger and Greenleaf. Make sure to okay this with your teacher. It is awesome that they support us for doing this, let them know ahead of time. If you have an open block and you would like to go the Challenger, you can sign up by telling your small group leader or Mr. Stock. Also, ANYBODY can go to Greenleaf any Tuesday they wish. Again, to sign up for this you will have to contact your small group leader or Mr. Stock.

“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?” -Rabbi Hillel

If I missed anything, let me know.
Thanks!

Presentation of this Blog

On Thursday I presented this site to my college composition 2 class. They gave helpful feedback that will hopefully make this site more valuable to NHS members. I will try to incorporate those things as soon as possible. A couple of things I will be working on immediately are: An activities calendar and a sign up list.

If you have any more feedback, please let me know!

Thanks,
Becca

February Update

So far this has been another successful week in NHS. Tuesday was filled full of volunteering. First off, we had a group go to Challenger. There were 8 members who helped out in Challenger kindergarten classes. It is always so much fun to see the kids react when they have a new face enter their classroom. They get so excited to see us. On the other side of the age spectrum, we had another opportunity to spend more time at the Greenleaf Care Center. The elderly are a hoot to talk with. We had about ten members spend time with the residents. A few of my group members spent some time with residents from the memory care facility. We tried to teach them how to play "Go Fish." This brought us quite a few laughs and some not so welcoming stares from the workers. We were loud, and we were definitely having a blast. However, as soon as we finished our game, we went back to the ladies favorite, rummy.

Upcoming events:
Monday February 11th - Meeting in the business conference room at 7:30AM
Tuesday February 12th - Blake's group goes to Challenger and Greenleaf

Don't forget!
Bring in your box tops!
Record your service hours!
Honor your commitment!

Thanks!

Challenger Carnival

Challenger Elementary School holds a school carnival every two years. National Honor Society is a big part of putting this on. We volunteer to work at booths, game stations, and other things throughout the day. This year the carnival is May 4th from 9-3. It is expected that ALL NHS members will help out at the carnival. Put it on your calendar! More information to come!

Box Tops For Education

Hey Again!

There is a lot going on in NHS right now! We have agreed to join forces with Challenger to collect Box Tops for Education! We want to help Challenger out so bring in any box tops you have to Mr. Stock or an executive board member. We'll get them to where they need to be!

Challenger Classrooms

Hey NHS members!

I hope you are enjoying what we have been doing through NHS so far this year. I know one of our top projects everyone seems to enjoy is going out to Challenger Elementary from 10-11 on Tuesdays. It is a lot of fun! Kindergarteners are full of energy and full of fun. It is really interesting to hear what they have to say sometimes! As you probably already know, this is an annual service project that NHS does and we love to get out and help anybody we can. We will continue going out to challenger throughout the school year.

The Small Group Schedule:

February 5th: Becca's Group
February 12th: Blake's Group
February 19th: Marcus' Group
February 26th: Sam's Group

Remember if you have a class during this time to get permission from your teacher.

I hope this can be useful to you.

Greenleaf Senior Care Center

Tuesday was the first day that National Honor Society members started our elderly care project. We had about ten volunteers go to Greenleaf to visit and play cards with the residents. For myself, this was an awesome experience since not a whole lot of my time has been spent with the elderly. I had a blast playing rummy, (or should I say asking if I was doing it right.) As I looked around, I noticed other NHS members having just as much fun as I was. National Honor Society volunteers at Greenleaf Senior Care Center after school on Tuesdays.

The following small groups will be at Greenleaf:

February 5th: Becca
February 12th: Blake
February 19th: Marcus

Note: NHS members can volunteer to go to Greenleaf any Tuesday that they are available.
